Tired and careworn, the female sighed in relief. She'd been running for about three days straight now, and was in dire need of rest. She sauntered forth with a limp, always raising one of her paws off the snow a little in pain. Her fur blowed about with the wind, her nose and paws nearly frost bitten. Her ears were caked with snow, and impaired her hearing a bit.
It was a relief she'd come across the caves. Here she could rest for a few days, and plan where she would next go. Here she could actually stop and think for once. She hadn't succumbed to her thoughts for a few days and she needed to settle before her mind went into overdrive.
Upon entering the cave, she caught the scents of other wolves. They were fairly old it seemed, so she was convinced that they hadn't stayed long. Ah well, she was too tired to worry about potential threats from other passing wolves.
Besides, she thought to herself. I could use the company.
She settled against a corner, curling up slightly, and began to lick her aching paws.
